Pheasant Among Peach Blossoms and Bamboo, created by Wang Yuan in 1343, Yuan Dynasty, ink and color on silk, from the collection of the Shanxi Museum [Photo/provided to chinaservicesinfo.com]

This painting by Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) artist Wang Yuan was originally created as a gift for his friend. Depicting a peach tree with newly blooming flowers, several stalks of green bamboo, a pheasant and sparrows, rocks and fine grass on a slope and a flowing stream, the work reveals Wang Yuan's mastery of bird-and-flower painting as well as his refined ink techniques for bamboo and rocks. Collection: Shanxi Museum.
