On Sept 19, 1927, Mao Zedong (1893-1976) led the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops to join forces at Wenjiashi town. At a meeting in Liren School, they made a historic strategic decision — to give up the planned attack on Changsha and instead march toward rural areas where the enemy was weaker. This marked the beginning of the “encircling the cities from the countryside” strategy, which became the right revolutionary path in China.

The Autumn Harvest Uprising Memorial Hall is a key historical site commemorating this critical history in the early Chinese revolution. It includes the site of the military gathering of the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops, the historical exhibition hall, the Autumn Harvest plaza and other red scenic spots.

Through 251 historical photographs, 33 artifacts, 23 documents, scene reconstruction, and electronic sand table, the exhibition hall vividly portrays the history of the Autumn Harvest Uprising. Themed “Glorious Starting Point”, the permanent exhibition is organized along five key narrative threads: a crisis as background set in the preface hall, upholding a new banner, opening up a new path for Chinese revolution, creating a new army, and a revolutionary epic of hardship and glory.

The memorial hall boasts a rich collection, including paintings, photographs, iron artifacts, documents, limestone relics such as Red Army slogans on walls, and ceramic pieces. Preventive conservation and emergency restoration have been carried out in parallel, in order to revitalize these treasured imprints of Chinese revolutionary history.
