The immersive Kunqu Opera, The Kunqu Encounter in Hunan, premiered to a full house in Changsha, Hunan province on July 18, seamlessly blending 600 years of Kunqu legacy with modern storytelling and multimedia artistry.
Rooted in the legendary tale of Liu Sheng, a Kunqu inheritor of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), who returns to his hometown of Chenzhou carrying the artistic legacy of his master, Tang Xianzu (1550–1616), the production is a vivid fusion of tradition and innovation.
