Hanzhong Economic and Technological Development Zone was founded in June 1999 with the approval of the Shaanxi provincial government. In October 2012, it was upgraded to a national-level economic and technological development zone approved by the State Council.
South to the Qinling Mountains and north to the Bashan Mountain, the zone in the Hanzhong basin sits at the junction of the Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone, the Jianghan Plain and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.
Relying on its geographic advantages, rich natural resources, unique ecosystem, industrial foundation and mature infrastructure, the zone has formed a series of pillar industries such as aviation equipment manufacturing, food and Chinese medicine, new energy, new materials and modern services.
Covering 13 square kilometers, the zone plans to build itself into a park for high-tech industries, other industries, trade services, tourism and leisure as well as living security. It has formed an industrial framework of five pillar industries, namely Chinese medicine, aviation, manufacturing of precision instruments, institutional tools and commerce circulation.
In 2018, the zone continued to optimize its business environment and attract more investments by launching a project-oriented strategy. It sets its focus on the industrial clusters of intelligent manufacturing, modern Chinese medicine and new economy. The zone held more than 10 promotion events in cities such as Wenzhou, Hangzhou and Dongguan and signed 16 projects with a total investment of 19.22 billion yuan ($2.83 billion).
