Biopharmaceutical Industry

The biopharmaceutical industry is composed of biotechnology industry and pharmaceutical industry. The biotechnology industry includes R&D, mass production and distribution services of biotechnology products. The biomedical engineering industry includes products made from biomedical materials, modern medical treatment equipment, and medical information technology. As one of the "core and hard technology" industries in Xi'an, the biopharmaceutical industry has developed fast, with traditional industries of chemical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, biological medicine, and medical equipment as the basis, and Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone as the core development district.

At present, Xi'an's biopharmaceutical enterprises are mainly distributed in the fields of chemical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, biological medicine, and medical equipment. There are also a small number of Contrast Research Organizations (CRO). The data show that in 2017, medical equipment and precision medicine raised the most funds. The pharmaceutical manufacturing industry realized a total profit of 1.330 billion yuan. There are 2,758 production and research-oriented enterprises; and with Xi'an High-tech Industries Development Zone as the core development district, there are more than 400 biopharmaceutical companies, and 24 companies with sales of over 100 million. In addition, the biopharmaceutical industry in Xi'an has gathered more than 180 national-level talents and 3,299 domestically produced drugs have been approved.
