Liuba turns ecological strengths into high-quality development drivers

As autumn foliage paints the Qinling Mountains red, a media delegation visited Liuba county in Hanzhong, Shaanxi province, from Oct 21 to 23 to explore how the county is translating sound ecological endowments into high-quality development momentum.

Known for its scenic landscapes and cultural heritage, Liuba welcomed nearly 200,000 tourist visits during the 2026 National Day holiday. Attractions such as Zhangliang Temple, Zibai Mountain and Liuba Old Street showcase the county's natural and cultural appeal.

Boutique homestays are a key driver of rural tourism. In Xiaoliuba village, 13 courtyard homestays have generated more than 5.24 million yuan ($785,800) in revenue-sharing payments for the village cooperative over six years, while inspiring residents to open 30 homestays of their own.

Beyond accommodation, homestays offer hands-on experiences with traditional crafts such as bamboo weaving and paper-cutting. Across the county, 209 homestays have revitalized idle rural homes and created jobs for more than 5,000 people.

Liuba is also developing its green food and medicinal products industries, helping local specialties reach wider markets.

Meanwhile, to support this growth, the county has set up dedicated service studios and grid-based management that help resolve disputes and provide legal services – underpinning the rural and industrial development that tourism depends on.

The county has preserved the character of its old streets while improving infrastructure and public services. By integrating ecological tourism, cultural heritage and green industries, Liuba is working to turn its natural advantages into lasting economic value.

Liuba follows a development strategy centered on ecological conservation, medicinal and edible products, and tourism. It plans to further develop ecological tourism, wellness travel, distinctive homestays, and green industries to advance high-quality development.
