The Xianyang Military Sub-district in Shaanxi province held a commemorative event on October 20 to mark the 90th anniversary of the Red Army’s victory in the Long March, bringing together military personnel, civilian staff and local primary school students to honor revolutionary martyrs and reflect on the historic journey.
The event took place at the Martyrs’ Monument Square and the Weibei Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall in Sanyuan county. Participants observed a moment of silence, sang the national anthem, and laid flower baskets at the monument. Students from Mengdian Primary School also sang a song and recited a poem dedicated to the spirit of the Long March.
Along the way, participants viewed a themed photo exhibition featuring key battles, important meetings, and stories of figures from the Long March.
At the Weibei Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall, they took part in an on-site learning session, exploring historical documents, artifacts and reconstructed scenes under the guidance of docents. The guided tour introduced the establishment and development of the revolutionary base, its history of struggle, and the role of local people in supporting the revolutionary cause. The tour helped the participants gain a deeper understanding of the region’s revolutionary history.
The event highlighted the enduring legacy of the Long March, including perseverance, courage in the face of adversity, and commitment to a shared goal. It also aimed to inspire military personnel to carry these values into their work in national defense mobilization and contribute to its development in the new era.
