LIUBA, Shaanxi — Liuba county in Hanzhong city, located in China's Northwest Shaanxi province, marked International Day for Biological Diversity on May 20 with a series of events, including the launch of the 2nd Qinling (Liuba) Birdwatching Competition.
There was also a symposium on bird conservation and biodiversity development — drawing researchers, government officials and bird-watching enthusiasts from across the country.
At the opening ceremony, the county officially unveiled a series of nature-themed study routes and educational courses designed to promote ecological learning across the region.
The newly compiled Atlas of Birds of the Qinling Mountains (Liuba) was also released, alongside a formal declaration on bird protection and sustainable development.
More than 60 bird-watching enthusiasts fanned out across Liuba's forested hills to observe, document and photograph local bird species — while other participants toured the Qinling Biodiversity Experience Center to learn about the area's rich wildlife resources.
On May 22, Liuba county also organized a hands-on bird-watching experience for over 30 young student journalists, aimed at instilling conservation values in the next generation through immersive nature education.
Looking ahead, Liuba plans to deepen its biodiversity protection efforts, expand its bird-watching economy and ensure that ecological conservation and sustainable development advance together.
