The first Training Course on Silk Road Archaeology, Science and Technology, and Cultural Heritage Conservation was held on March 23 at Termiz State University in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Organized by Xi'an's Northwest University and targeting major universities and research institutions in Uzbekistan, the course attracted over 100 experts and scholars,
At the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Jianxin, chief scientist at the Collaborative Research Center for Archaeology of the Silk Roads; Professor Shaidullaev of Termiz State University; and Professor Zou Tongxuan, vice-president of the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, delivered keynote speeches on the research paradigm of Silk Road archaeology, new directions for China-Uzbekistan archaeological cooperation, and the interpretation system for the value of Silk Road heritage, respectively.
Fifteen instructors from Northwest University and six renowned scholars from Uzbekistan will teach the two-week training course, which comprises classroom sessions, laboratory instruction, and fieldwork, with a curriculum covering the archaeology of China and the Silk Road, cultural relics conservation, and cultural heritage management.
The training program is the first practice of the university's archaeological teaching system in cultivating talents in Central Asia. It will inject new momentum into advancing the protection and preservation of Silk Road cultural heritage, and promote cultural exchanges and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
