After the 11th century, horse imagery often appeared on delicate scholar's desk items, frequently portrayed in a calm, crouching pose. This elegant horse paperweight from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) is masterfully carved from precious, rare Tianhuang stone. The horse is depicted in a resting posture, its powerful, lifelike muscles curled gently as it turns its head back with a slight upward tilt. Every detail is meticulously rendered: the mane is neatly arranged, and the tail is tucked naturally along the body.

Though small, the carving conveys strength, grace, and tranquility on a scholar's desk. Collection: Suzhou Museum.
