Meet a true showstopper from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) — a tri-color horse sculpture predominantly glazed in black, an exceptionally rare and precious masterpiece. Its neck is held proudly high, four legs firmly planted, eyes gazing straight ahead, and a green saddle blanket draped across its back. Its four white hooves are an artistic interpretation of "four hooves treading on snow".
Unearthed in 1981 in Longmen, Luoyang, Henan province, the pottery horse is now one of the greatest treasures of the Luoyang Museum.
