Empowering enterprises with precision carbon metrics for greener energy solutions

Recently, with the professional support of State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company, Hongyuan New Materials (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd. and Xindian Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. successfully completed carbon footprint verification for their solar cell products and waste cable recycling processes. Utilizing the State Grid Jiangsu Electricity Carbon Factor Database, which differentiates data by time, region, and voltage level, both companies obtained third-party carbon footprint certificates, thereby gaining strong technical support for their green transformation.

As enterprises accelerate toward sustainable and low-carbon development, product carbon footprint certification and precise carbon quantification have become vital to improving market competitiveness. However, traditional international databases often fail to reflect the rapid growth of China's new energy sector and the continuous optimization of its power mix, resulting in inflated carbon footprint estimates that obscure real low-carbon progress.

To address this issue, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company developed an innovative spatiotemporal and voltage-tier electricity carbon factor database, providing enterprises with a more realistic basis for emission calculations. Leveraging this tool, the Xuzhou Power Supply Company selected two pilot cases—bifacial solar cell production by Hongyuan New Materials and waste cable disassembly and recycling by Xindian Hi-Tech—and collaborated with Yingda Carbon Asset Company and third-party verification agencies to conduct field investigations and full-process carbon footprint assessments.

Results indicate that with the refined electricity carbon factor, the indirect power-related emissions of Hongyuan's bifacial solar cell production were 21.39% lower, and those of Xindian Hi-Tech’s cable recycling operations were 30.95% lower, compared to conventional international database results. These findings more accurately represent the true carbon performance of enterprises and mark a significant breakthrough in carbon accounting precision. The initiative provides a replicable and scalable model for regional enterprises to quantify carbon footprints and enhance their "green competitiveness" with data-driven credibility.
