Zhou costumes win big award

The Zhou Dynasty Costume Show, created by Shaanxi Tourism Group, recently won the Platinum Award — the highest honor of the Muse Design Awards in the United States. This prestigious recognition highlights the show's innovative interpretation of Zhou culture and its outstanding contribution to contemporary global design.

The creation of Zhou fashion show began with an in-depth exploration of the 3000-year-old Zhou culture, drawing inspiration is rooted from the rich historical relics and cultural legacy of the Zhouyuan site in Baoji, Shaanxi province.

Guided by the core concept of "telling the story of Zhou culture through clothing," the design team draws inspiration from the refined imagery of The Book of Songs, the mysterious motifs of bronze ritual vessels, and the graceful movements of Zhou Dynasty music and dance. Cultural symbols are reinterpreted and transformed into a unique design language.

The creation of this fashion show was the result of two years of dedicated research — a cultural innovation grounded in meticulous historical study.

Shaanxi Tourism Group organized a team of experts to dig deep into the vast classics and unearthed cultural relics, restoring the clothing forms and aesthetic characteristics under the productivity level of the Zhou Dynasty.

At the same time, breaking through the limitations of simple retro styles, combining animal skins and hemp raw materials with modern fabrics, integrating ancient Greek elements and environmental protection concepts into design, and achieving a diverse blend of tradition and modernity, East and West.

From the live performances in the scenic area to the stunning international debut at the Paris Chinese Cultural Center during the 2024 Sino-French Fashion Week, the fashion show has become a bridge for cross-cultural exchange through various forms such as runway shows, flash mobs, and interactive experiences, making Zhou Li Yi Guan (ritual attire of the Zhou Dynasty) a bridge for cross-cultural communication.

This award is a new starting point. Looking ahead, the scenic area will promote the inheritance of traditional culture through comprehensive and interactive displays.

It will continue to deepen the construction of Zhou culture IP, promote the deep integration of fashion shows with performing arts, academic research, cultural and creative industries, and allow more people to feel the living warmth of history through clothing.
