First time for the Palace Museum: Establishing a Ceramics Gallery
In 1952, following the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Palace Museum opened its very first Ceramics Gallery in the Palace of Compassion and Tranquility (Cining Gong) area. The gallery was established to showcase the enduring legacy of Chinese ceramics over thousands of years, drawing upon the Palace Museum's unparalleled collection.
Over time, as research advanced and understanding grew, the Ceramics Gallery itself has experienced several transformations, presented in different venues within the museum.
