Listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2021, this unique folk sport blends competition, ritual and performance. Originating as a way to carry young women to temples during spring festivals, it has evolved into a vibrant cultural spectacle that celebrates endurance, teamwork and Sichuan’s rich mountain traditions.
