The ongoing exhibition at Plaza 66 on West Nanjing Road in downtown Shanghai is presenting the 40-year journey of the legendary musical, *Les Miserables*. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

As the first Western musical performed in the Chinese mainland, Les Miserables opened the door for international musicals to be staged in China.

The exhibition at Plaza 66 features the first public display of posters signed by the cast, brochures and merchandise from the 2003 Shanghai performances 23 years ago. Video clips showcase the global journey of the production over the past four decades.
