As the signature performance of the Nianhua Bay scenic area in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, the live-action show The Zen Smile has grown alongside the scenic area itself. Since its debut in 2015, the production has undergone four rounds of upgrades, maintaining its vitality and strong appeal throughout the years.
In 2020, the scenic area invited Georgian sculptor Tamara to design a large-scale musical kinetic sculpture that is integrated into the show, achieving a seamless blend of modern artistic aesthetics with traditional Chinese ambience. Since then, The Zen Smile has been staged nearly 4,000 times, drawing about 10 million viewers.
The 15-minute performance immerses audiences in a dreamlike artistic space using light and shadow aesthetics, augmented reality technology, and globally developed kinetic sculptures. It offers a panoramic experience that evokes imagination and conveys the Zen-inspired culture of Nianhua Bay.
To enhance the audiovisual impact, the stage employs image stitching and blending technologies to deliver multi-angle, multi-dimensional visual effects. Over 20 laser projectors create virtual-reality scenes, synchronized with dynamic stage machinery and special effects.
