This awe-inspiring green jade dragon head from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) is the only known piece of its kind to survive through the centuries. Carved using openwork, bas-relief, and fine incised lines, the dragon stuns with its solid form and majestic energy, a pearl clutched in its mouth. Its tubular neck with three perforated holes suggests it may have once adorned the imperial chariot or topped a royal scepter. Now in the collection of Tianjin Museum, the dragon continues to emanate a commanding presence through its piercing gaze.
