The Xi'an Kazakhstan Port, located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was put into operation on June 10.
The Kazakhstan Xi'an Port in Xi'an, China, was completed and put into operation last year as a result of the first China-Central Asia Summit. This year, the Xi'an Kazakhstan Port will foster a closer connection between Almaty and Xi'an, enhance transportation, and establish a new model for economic and trade cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.
The Xi'an Kazakhstan Port spans an area of 147mu(9.8 hectares) and costs a total investment of $62.1 million. The port comprises four functional areas: loading, unloading, storage, transportation, and comprehensive office. It is the first overseas station project built and operated by Xi'an Chanba International Port and Shaanxi province, and will become the first stop of China's westward opening-up.
Yang Bing, director of Xi'an Chanba International Port management committee, said, "We will accelerate the construction of stations in Moscow, Russia, and Baku, Azerbaijan, and plan projects in Budapest, Hungary, and Minsk, Belarus. We will also build a professional, large-scale, and intelligent overseas warehouse service network that will inject new momentum into Shaanxi and Xi'an's integration into the Belt and Road Initiative and promote reform and opening-up in inland China."
