Day Nine
Red Beach National Scenic Corridor, Liaoning province
Stretching 18 kilometers along the northernmost coastline of China, the Red Beach National Scenic Corridor is known as the "Red Coastline of the World". It comprises 10 scenic spots, all connected by a coastal highway, situated within the red beach and the reed marsh. The beach appears red because of a type of sea weed, suaeda salsa, which grows along the shore and turns pink, red and crimson, as it matures. When the tide recedes, the weed creates a sea of red. The red beach and the green reeds together make a spectacular view, and there are289 species of water bird living in the nearby wetland.
