This exquisite pot is a bronze lei (wine container) from the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC). With superb craftsmanship and vibrant colors, it is a rare piece among bronze artifacts of its time.
Featuring a straight rim, a round shoulder, a subtly bulging body, a tapered bottom and a flat base, the vessel is inlaid with turquoise mosaic and taotie (mythical beast mask) motifs. Collection: National Museum of China.
