Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), artists have leveraged intricate embroidery techniques to imbue their works with the colors, textures and details found in paintings. Gu embroidery, originating from the Luxiang Garden in Shanghai during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), stands as the epitome of painting embroidery.
An exhibition unveiled on Nov 28 at the Suzhou Museum West, aims to illustrate the evolution of Jiangnan painting embroidery and the stories of female embroiderers. A total of 100 embroidery works from five countries in Asia and Europe will be on display until March 3, 2024.
