Renowned as a World Heritage Site in Northwest China’s Gansu province, the Mogao Caves deserves to be called a holy land of Buddhist art as the home of the largest scale and the richest Buddhist cultural content found in the world.

An integration of cave architecture, painted sculpture and murals, it is recognized by both Eastern and Western scholars as the greatest treasure trove in the vast land of Eurasia. This online exhibition, curated by the Dunhuang Academy, was launched on August 28, 2014. It takes advantage of digital technology for the purposes of preserving the Dunhuang Grottoes' cultural heritage and restoring the glorious civilization of Dunhuang.

Here you can appreciate replicated caves and three-dimensional painted sculpture, and browse digital Dunhuang murals with ultra-high pixel resolution, especially the one depicting the Wutai Mountains map; in a word, you can travel back to glorious ancient Dunhuang with the help of digital technologies.
