The Whole Night Meeting in Sanwan will be presented at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday. The play written by Wang Baoshe recounts a historical event in 1927 when the Chinese Communist Party in Jiangxi province went through a major military reform under the leadership of Mao Zedong.
"I have always been interested in that chapter of Chinese history," Wang says in Shanghai. "It was at that meeting in Sanwan that Mao took away the high-ranking officers' privileges and established, for the first time, a democratic system in the Chinese army. I believe it was not easy to make the change, so I wanted to present the dramatic event which was an important milestone for the Chinese Communist Party.
