Tang Dengjie, Party secretary of Shanxi province, delivered a work report at the 13th Congress of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China on Oct 20 in Taiyuan, highlighting the province's economic achievements and noting that Shanxi's GDP surpassed 2.5 trillion yuan ($374.3 billion), with per capita GDP exceeding $10,000.

The report emphasizes that the upcoming five years present a crucial opportunity for Shanxi to drive high-quality development and achieve transformative progress.

The report calls for Shanxi to modernize and diversify its economy by developing industries suited to its strengths, upgrading existing industries and accelerating the transition to cleaner energy sources.

The focus will also be on integrating technological and industrial innovation as well as strengthening education, scientific research, and talent development. These efforts aim to build a modern industrial system that reflects Shanxi's unique characteristics and competitive advantages.

Reform and opening-up are central to Shanxi's strategy, with plans to advance key reforms, optimize the business environment, and implement strategies to expand domestic demand. The province seeks to integrate with and contribute to the national unified market, enhancing both domestic and international openness to generate new momentum for high-quality growth.

Shanxi also aims to balance urbanization with rural vitalization, optimizing regional development models and promoting the construction of livable and sustainable rural areas. This includes improving modern infrastructure and fostering urban-rural integration for shared prosperity.

Enhancing social welfare will also be a priority, focusing on high-quality employment, increasing income levels, and providing satisfactory education. The province plans to strengthen its social security system, advance health initiatives, and continually improve public well-being.
