Experts gather in Jincheng to discuss urban renewal

Experts, scholars, and industry representatives from across China gathered to explore new models for the quality-oriented development of Shanxi province's resource-based cities at the inaugural Shanxi Urban Renewal Development Conference on Oct 17 in Jincheng.

The conference emphasized the need to continuously accelerate urban development, shifting from a reliance on land-based fiscal policies to a focus on industry cultivation, innovation-driven growth, and value-added operations. 

It called for optimizing the allocation of resources to make full use of underutilized spaces, while enhancing the precision of urban management to achieve a balance between economic, social, and environmental benefits.

Li Jinsheng, president of the Urban Planning Society of Shanxi, stated that advancing urban renewal should be guided by scientific and technological innovation, using green and low-carbon technologies to address urban governance challenges. 

He emphasized a people-centered approach, adhering to the "People's City" concept, and simultaneously upgrading infrastructure and public services. Collaboration was also highlighted as essential, with a focus on deepening industry-academia-research partnerships, continuously pooling resources and steadily advancing urban renewal across the province.

Following the opening ceremony, experts from within and outside the province engaged in discussions on typical urban renewal cases and practical challenges. The conference also featured four sub-forums, including a Youth Forum on the Preservation of Regional Cultural Heritage.
