On Sunday, the National Ballet of China presented The Peony Pavilion as the opening performance of the 12th Silk Road International Arts Festival at Shaanxi Grand Theatre in Xi’an.
Drawing on the essence of the original Chinese classic, the ballet follows Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei’s extraordinary love beyond dreams, life and death. Through three intertwined manifestations of Du Liniang, the production explores female awakening, self-discovery, and the courage to pursue love beyond the boundaries of the human and spiritual worlds.
A poetic fusion of Eastern aesthetics and contemporary ballet, bringing the timeless beauty of Chinese culture to the world.
