How has the image of the Chinese woman changed over the centuries? Beauty on the Bund: Lin Fengmian and Shanghai School Beauty Paintings, opening at Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy today, traces this transformation from the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to modern times through works by artists including Lin Fengmian (1900-91), Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), and Qian Hui’an (1833-1911).

The exhibition explores changing ideals of feminine beauty and urban life, as well as the evolving dialogue between tradition and modernity in haipai (Shanghai School) ink painting.

Dates: Until Nov 15
