For the village, the green transition has meant more than just a change in its energy mix — it has brought a fundamental shift in its development philosophy.

"Many people advocate low-carbon travel. When they come to the island and see green electricity in use, with a beautiful environment to match, they feel more relaxed — and word spreads," Tang said.

The village's homestays have also undergone a qualitative shift. With a healthier ecosystem, the village sees more guests bringing their families for extended stays.

"What we're selling is a lifestyle and a rhythm — homegrown vegetables, free-range chickens, not greenhouse produce," said Tang.

According to the village committee, Dahebei has experienced a huge surge in tourist numbers.

In 2019, about 140,000 to 150,000 tourists came to the village. In 2024, following the full rollout of green electricity, that figure soared to around 1 million, surpassing 1.2 million in 2025.

The Xingping power supply station has also introduced a "green electricity code" system to certify and rate homestays based on their use of green energy.

With a large number of visitors in Xingping, accommodations with green electricity certification are more sought-after, Tang said. The mechanism has helped attract higher-end clientele and elevated the island's overall tourism quality.

"Villagers' incomes are rising year by year, and you can see it on their faces — everyone is smiling," he added.
