On July 17, as part of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, the Taishan Mountain Scenic Area Administrative Committee and South African National Parks (SANParks) signed a friendship cooperation agreement in Cape Town.
Ren Faqiang, China's consul general in Cape Town, noted that Taishan Mountain and Table Mountain — both world-renowned natural and cultural icons — now bridge the Pacific and Indian oceans through this partnership, exemplifying deepening China-South Africa ties. China's consul general in Cape Town will continue facilitating local exchanges and practical cooperation between China and the Western Cape.
The agreement builds on the sister-province relationship between Shandong province and the Western Cape, established in 1998. Table Mountain, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, holds tremendous ecological and tourism value.
Moving forward, both sides will refine the agreement and formally sign a comprehensive friendship pact. This partnership aims to promote exchanges across multiple sectors, share resources, and create mutual benefits — elevating the collaboration between these two iconic mountains to new heights.
