Inner Mongolia VAT refund shopping program expands to 17 stores

The number of designated stores offering value-added tax (VAT) refunds for overseas visitors in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has grown to 17, according to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Tax Bureau of the State Taxation Administration.

The stores include seven in Hohhot, eight in Manzhouli, and two in Ereenhot, offering more convenient shopping experiences to international travelers.

The VAT refund program allows eligible overseas visitors to claim refunds on qualified purchases when departing China.

Since the policy was fully implemented in Inner Mongolia on Nov 1, 2025, the region has launched refund services at major airports and land ports, including Hohhot Baita International Airport, Manzhouli Xijiao International Airport, and Ereenhot Saiwusu International Airport.

To promote the policy, local tax, commerce, customs, and tourism authorities have jointly released service guides in Chinese, English, Mongolian, and Russian, and distributed promotional materials at key visitor areas.

On June 25, Inner Mongolia introduced the "buy now, refund now" service, allowing overseas visitors to complete VAT refund procedures at the point of purchase, further improving travel convenience and boosting border trade.
