Taicang builds China-Europe cultural dialogue through art

Taicang has further strengthened its role as a bridge for China-Europe cultural exchange by organizing two international art events showcasing artists from Germany and Poland.

On June 26, an exhibition featuring Chinese artist Yuan Shun and German artist Jutta Bobbe opened at Taicang Art Museum. The following day, three curators, also exhibiting artists, from a contemporary Polish art exhibition met with visitors at Hismoon Studio also in Taicang.

Yuan and Bobbe's artistic partnership began with their first joint exhibition at the German embassy in Beijing in 2013. Their latest show, held 13 years later, presents around 40 works on four themes. The works explore the paradoxes of human existence in the high-tech era through the expressive use of color.

The exhibitions are part of Taicang's growing calendar of international cultural exchanges.

In 2024, the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra brought the timeless works of Joseph Haydn to the city. In 2025, Taicang Art Museum hosted two German art exhibitions, welcoming nearly 20 artists to their opening ceremonies. And this April, the China-Germany Women Artists Dialogue Exhibition also opened at Taicang Art Museum.

These events reflect Taicang's commitment to making cultural exchange a year-round endeavor rather than just a series of isolated occasions.

Beyond music and visual arts, the city's long-standing partnership with Germany has expanded to broad collaboration in education, tourism, environmental protection, public welfare, urban development and social governance.
