A coal-fired power project with a total investment of more than 11.1 billion yuan ($1.64 billion) has received approval from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Energy Bureau and will be built in Hanggin Banner, Ordos.

The project forms part of the supporting infrastructure for the Inner Mongolia Desert Base-to-Jiangsu Power Transmission Project. It will be developed by Datang (Ordos) Energy Development Co, a joint venture established by Datang International Power Generation Co, Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group, and local renewable energy developers in Ordos.

Located in Duguitala town, the project will build four 660,000-kilowatt ultra-supercritical air-cooled coal-fired generating units with integrated environmental protection facilities, including flue-gas desulfurization, denitrification, and dust-control systems.

The plant will serve as a key supporting power source for the Ordos Southern New Energy Base in the Kubuqi Desert. By providing a flexible and stable power supply, it is expected to help balance fluctuations in renewable energy generation and enhance the reliability of power transmission through the ultra-high-voltage (UHV) line delivering electricity from Inner Mongolia to Jiangsu province.

The project is also expected to strengthen cross-regional energy cooperation and improve the efficiency of resource allocation.
