Dragon boat races bring tradition, festivity to Taicang's Jincang Lake

The rhythmic beat of drums echoed across Jincang Lake as 24 teams from across Taicang took to the water on June 13 for the 2026 Jincang Lake Dragon Boat Race.

The competition showcased speed, strength and precision, with paddlers working in perfect unison as spectators lined the lakeshore to cheer them on.

But the excitement extended well beyond the main races. This year's event introduced a series of new attractions. Dragon boat tug-of-war contests added a playful twist to the traditional sport, while breathtaking flyboard performances dazzled visitors with gravity-defying stunts above the water.

Organizers designed an engaging festival environment along the verdant lakeside, incorporating lifestyle markets, interactive gaming stations, and curated themed photography installations. Visitors had the opportunity to engage in experiential learning activities that showcased intangible cultural heritage.

Since its debut in 2010, the Jincang Lake Dragon Boat Race has grown into one of Taicang's signature Dragon Boat Festival events.
