Xi'an's total import and export volume reached 352.5 billion yuan ($52.14 billion) from January to May, a year-on-year increase of 85.1 percent.

Development zones posted a total import and export volume of 249.46 billion yuan from January to April, accounting for 97.2 percent of the city's total and serving as the core engine of growth.

Exports of mechanical and electrical products hit 188.34 billion yuan, surging 110 percent year-on-year. Of this total, exports of high-tech products stood at 154.82 billion yuan, up 170 percent.

While consolidating traditional markets including Europe, the United States, and Japan, the city's imports and exports with ASEAN countries jumped 104.5 percent, and those with Central Asia rose 16.8 percent. Trade volume with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 144.21 billion yuan, up 83.4 percent.

The Xi'an municipal bureau of commerce will focus on market expansion and innovation-driven growth, organizing 700 enterprises to explore overseas markets throughout the year, enabling more Xi'an-made products to reach global markets and providing stronger momentum for building an inland hub for reform and opening-up.
