The opening performance of the Henan Quju Opera Centennial Celebration was held at the Henan Arts Center Grand Theatre in Zhengzhou on Wednesday. Renowned artists and rising young performers shared the stage, showcasing the rich heritage, diverse styles and new creative achievements of this traditional Chinese opera form.
Henan Quju Opera, also known as “Gaotai Qu” or “Quzi Opera”, developed in the 1920s from Henan folk tunes and stilt-walking performances. It is one of China’s eight major opera genres and a national intangible cultural heritage.
