Xi'an and Pella in Greece signed a letter of intent to establish friendly relations on May 14, marking a new chapter in exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Pella is located in the heart of the region of Central Macedonia in Greece. It is named after the ancient city of Pella, the capital of ancient Kingdom of Macedonia and the birthplace of Alexander the Great.

Pella is a major agricultural and industrial hub in Greece. It is the country's largest center for fruit processing and exports, with processed fruit products sold around the world. The region boasts well-established expertise in international brand operation, intensive processing, and the development of export-oriented industrial chains.

Pella's cherry output accounts for 75 percent of Greece's total, while peach production makes up 44.71 percent of the national volume. Large tracts of land are also devoted to the cultivation of apples, kiwifruit, and other fruits.

Pella is also endowed with abundant natural and cultural tourism resources. From the magnificent Edessa Waterfalls to the Pozar thermal baths with a constant water temperature of 37 C, all showcase the region's unique charm.

Although thousands of miles apart, Xi'an and Pella share a profound historical heritage and possess complementary resource endowments. Adhering to the principle of equality and mutual benefit, the two sides will advance friendly city ties and promote exchanges and cooperation in culture and tourism, archaeology, education, economy, and trade. They will establish official friendly relations when conditions are ripe.
