The 7th International Forum on Language and Culture Research, centered on "Converging intelligence, paradigm shifts", was held in Xi'an from April 25 to 26, attracting experts and scholars from various countries and regions, including China, the United Kingdom, and Romania.
Experts and scholars from 12 universities and research institutions, including the University of Oxford, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Shanghai International Studies University, delivered keynote speeches. Breaking the boundaries of traditional disciplines, they engaged in in-depth discussions on interdisciplinary integration, methodological innovation, and paradigm restructuring in language and culture research in the digital and intelligent era.
Experts noted that artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies are transforming people's linguistic practices, knowledge production, and cultural communication. Facing the intelligent era, research on language and culture must move beyond the limitations of single-discipline approaches and establish a more comprehensive framework that integrates linguistic realities, social structures, technological governance, educational practice, and cultural identity.
They emphasized the importance of examining how AI empowers linguistic research, how linguistic studies can inform AI governance, and how both affect social life. Greater efforts should also be made to strengthen international academic cooperation and support the training of young scholars, thereby advancing exchange and mutual learning among civilizations through language as a vital bond.
The forum is an international academic platform established by Xi'an University and has grown into a key venue for bringing together global academic insights and promoting exchanges and cooperation in language and culture research. Over the past six years, the forum has attracted more than 100 distinguished scholars from over 10 countries and hosted over 100 high-level academic exchange events.
The organizer will continue to draw on Xi'an's profound historical and cultural heritage, as well as Xi'an University's disciplinary development strengths, to advance the deep integration of language and culture research with AI, international Chinese language education, social governance, and other fields, thereby contributing to cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative.
