A new exhibition opens today at the Shenzhen Museum in Guangdong province, taking you back to the turbulent era of the Sixteen Kingdoms period (304-439). At the heart of the exhibition are the three Yan regimes – Former Yan, Later Yan, and Northern Yan – which rose in present western Liaoning province. Here, witness the exchanges between the agricultural traditions of the Central Plain, the nomadic cultures of the northern steppe, and the diverse communities of China's northeastern frontier from more than 1,500 years ago.
