A delegation from Australia visited Xi'an to engage in friendly exchanges and foster closer ties from April 12 to 13.

The delegation toured the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, Shaanxi History Museum, the Xi'an City Wall, and Zhizi Automobile Technology Co, completing a visit that took in the city's ancient history and recent development, including its cultural heritage and modern industries.

In addition to being awestruck by the Terracotta Warriors and the ancient city wall, the delegation members said they were deeply impressed by Shaanxi's development in the new energy vehicle sector.

At Zhizi Automobile, they inspected new energy commercial vehicle technologies. In May 2025, the company exported its first batch of hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks to Australia. As such, it became the first domestic enterprise to obtain certification from developed countries and achieve the mass production and export of hydrogen heavy trucks, with its products and technologies recognized by international markets.

An electrical engineering technician among the delegation said Australia has a vast territory, and road transport is a vital part of its economic lifeline. Decarbonizing heavy-duty trucks is therefore key to achieving low-carbon and sustainable development.

"We have long believed that the hydrogen economy holds great potential, but the challenge in the past has been the complexity of putting technologies into practice," he said.

"Here, I have witnessed the leap from theory to reality. The development of hydrogen energy and new energy transportation equipment is of great significance for low-carbon environmental protection, and there is broad space for cooperation between the two sides in relevant fields."

"A trip to China without visiting Xi'an is incomplete," said Yuan Zuwen, organizer of the delegation. "Through this famous historical and cultural city, Australians can gain an insight into China's historical and cultural heritage."

Yuan said he hopes this tour will serve as an opportunity to let Australians see a true and comprehensive China, present a credible, lovely, and respectable image of the country, and further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Yuan also looked forward to strengthening complementary advantages and deepening practical cooperation between the two countries in clean energy, new energy vehicles, energy storage, carbon reduction, and other fields, so as to foster new drivers for the development of the green economy.
