Originally constructed in 1916, the McBain Building is one of the landmark examples of New Classical architecture on Shanghai's waterfront. Jiushi museum's relocation to the building is part of an effort to revitalize historical structures in the area.
"In renovating the second and third floors, we preserved the original arched windows to create a dialogue between the artworks inside and the Bund landscape outside," said Tang Mingze, project manager of the museum.
