Tens of thousands of grey cranes have gathered along the Dusitu River in Otog Banner, Ordos city, marking the arrival of the annual spring migration.
Traveling thousands of kilometers from southern regions, the birds stop at the river's wetlands to rest and refuel before continuing their journey north. The large flocks, seen foraging, calling, and moving across the shallows, highlight the area's role as a vital stopover habitat.
Experts note that migratory birds are highly sensitive to environmental conditions, making their repeated return a strong indicator of the area's ecological health.
The Dusitu River has become a reliable sanctuary thanks to sustained conservation efforts, including wetland restoration, routine patrols, improved bird rescue systems, and growing participation from local farmers and herders in wildlife protection.

In recent years, Otog Banner has prioritized ecological improvement as part of its broader development strategy, focusing on integrated environmental management and biodiversity conservation.
The annual arrival of grey cranes not only signals the change of season but also reflects ongoing progress in restoring natural habitats and promoting harmony between humans and nature.
