A shipment of 400 metric tons of sugarcane from Nansha, Guangzhou, was dispatched to regions including Shandong and Pingyuan county, Meizhou, Guangdong province, on March 23, in a coordinated effort by government bodies and enterprises to alleviate a sales slump faced by local growers.

The procurement ceremony, held in Dongchong town on March 23, was jointly organized by the Guangzhou and Nansha agriculture and rural affairs bureaus. The initiative brought together multiple stakeholders, including China Post's Guangzhou and Shandong branches and the Nansha Fisheries Association, to purchase the sugarcane.

Nansha is known for its black-skinned sugarcane, prized for its thin, easy-to-peel rind, tender fiber, and rich, sweet juice. It is a key source of income for local farmers. Recent challenges, including expanded production capacity and market fluctuations, had disrupted sales.

Authorities responded swiftly, issuing procurement appeals and setting up urban distribution points. China Post's Guangzhou branch coordinated the purchase of 385 tons for Shandong, while the Nansha Fisheries Association bought 20 tons and donated it to schools, hospitals, and sanitation workers in Pingyuan county — a gesture that underscores the deep partnership between the two regions.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to rural vitalization. China Post's Nansha branch, which procured 385 tons, will oversee distribution to help agricultural products reach more markets.
