Ordos Hanxia New Energy Co based in the Juungar Economic Development Zone completed its first container-based hydrogen filling operation of the year on March 20, with 423 kilograms of hydrogen filled at 99.999 percent purity. The milestone marks the start of large-scale operations at China's first 10,000-metric-ton photovoltaic hydrogen project.

Jointly invested by China Three Gorges Group and Inner Mongolia Manshi Group, the project is Inner Mongolia's first hydrogen-producing 10,000-ton wind-photovoltaic integrated demonstration project, with a total investment of 2.35 billion yuan ($340.58 million).

It adopts an innovative model, linking the photovoltaic plant with the hydrogen production plant 60 kilometers away – a feat which had never before been achieved in China.

The photovoltaic plant is built on a reclaimed coal subsidence area, while the hydrogen production plant leverages industrial park infrastructure, achieving highly efficient clean energy integration.

The project has already established efficient production and sales coordination. According to Ji Mengbo, deputy general manager of Ordos Hanxia New Energy Co, daily hydrogen filling and sales stand at 700 kilograms, while average daily hydrogen production is 10,000 standard cubic meters.

The green hydrogen supplies the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos region and surrounding areas and extends to Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces. It is widely applied across hydrogen refueling stations, chemical synthesis, specialty electronics gases, and other sectors.

Simultaneously, pipeline networks are being expanded and downstream cooperation deepened, forming a full-chain green hydrogen consumption system.

As an industry benchmark, the project is expected to save 226,000 tons of standard coal and reduce 594,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. It not only provides strong support for clean energy substitution in Juungar Banner but also sets a national model for the high-quality development of China's wind and photovoltaic hydrogen industry.
