Spring 2026, the Year of the Horse, has sparked a vigorous development drive in Hechi along the Hongshui River. Over 4.3 million local residents are seizing opportunities with concrete actions, fueling dynamic progress across the city's industrial, infrastructure-related and agricultural sectors.
Industrial upgrading is at the core of Hechi's development, centered on the Nandan comprehensive pilot zone for the high-quality development of critical metals, a key mission assigned by Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. Local firm Nandan Zhenghua Nonferrous Metals is speeding up technical transformation; its two core projects are now 70 percent complete, and set to launch in July with an expected annual output value of 6 billion yuan ($828 million).
The pilot zone gains strong support from targeted policies rolled out by Guangxi in January, with 28 measures covering funding, land use and energy consumption. It has achieved key progress, with 10 projects signed at over 16.20 billion yuan and a goal to build a national industrial cluster with an annual output value of 45 billion yuan.

Infrastructure construction is accelerating rapidly. Major transportation projects including the second Guizhou-Guangxi Railway line and Longtan Hydropower Station's 1,000-metric-ton navigation project are under full construction, with several highways nearing completion. Urban renewal and industrial park construction are also advancing, solidifying the city's development foundation.
Meanwhile, technology empowers local agriculture, with modern farming techniques promoted in demonstration bases. Mechanized sugarcane harvesting boosts efficiency eight to 10 times compared with manual work. Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county's sericulture industry benefits 49,200 households, generating 2.51 billion yuan in cocoon sales in 2025.
All sectors in Hechi are united in the pursuit of development with a pragmatic work ethos, racing forward at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30) to write a new chapter of high-quality and green development.
