Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) held its AI+ Action Advancement Conference on March 17 to mobilize the entire zone and strengthen efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) across various industries, providing strong momentum for building the "World Optics Valley".

OVC AI+ Office unveiled the 2026 AI Work Plan and 10 key tasks during the conference. Shen Yue, secretary of the Party Working Committee of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, emphasized that OVC should seize AI opportunities to drive the construction of the "World Optics Valley" as Wuhan strives to establish itself as an AI hub.

Notable entrepreneurs such as Liu Yongjian, chairman of Digital Communication Group; Luo Biwen, CEO of Shuming Technology; Lei Zhenpeng, founder of Monkey Talk; and Xia Yong, assistant president of HGTECH, shared their insights.

"As models become homogenized and technical barriers gradually level out, the real core competitiveness in the AI sector's future development will be the innovative practices in industry essence and scenario applications," said Liu Yongjian.

OVC's AI industry has a solid foundation, with its scale surpassing 60 billion yuan ($8.72 billion) by 2025, accounting for over 60 percent of Wuhan's total. It has produced significant achievements, such as the world's first AI chip + large-model CNC system and the Zidong Taichu 4.0 model, with numerous innovative companies emerging.

This year, the zone's AI industry will shift from "foundation laying" to "comprehensive development", aiming to exceed 80 billion yuan in industry scale, gather over 1,000 AI companies, and incubate 500 one-person companies (OPCs).
