During the 2026 two sessions, deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) from Hubei province emphasized the importance of developing a "World Optics Valley" in Wuhan and called for support to build a world-class optoelectronic information industry cluster.
Ma Xinqiang, NPC deputy and chairman of HGTECH, highlighted the unique position of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC) in the optoelectronic information sector.
He proposed prioritizing support for Wuhan's high-level innovation platforms and leading enterprises in undertaking key national projects, such as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's high-quality manufacturing development initiatives and key research programs.
Yan Dapeng, NPC deputy and vice-chairman of Raycus Laser, recommended that the national government designate Hubei's optoelectronic information industry cluster as a strategic priority. He called for tailored policies and dedicated resources to strengthen major productivity layouts, high-level innovation platforms, and core technology breakthroughs, in support of Hubei’s goal to build the "World Optics Valley".
Lei Jun, NPC deputy and chairman of Xiaomi Group, announced plans to advance the large-scale application of humanoid robots in intelligent manufacturing. Over the next five years, Xiaomi expects to deploy a substantial number of humanoid robots across its factories.
Since establishing its Wuhan headquarters in OVC nearly eight years ago, Xiaomi has rapidly developed, contributing over 150 billion yuan ($21.78 billion) in revenue. Lei emphasized Xiaomi's commitment to further increasing investment in Hubei and supporting the province's high-quality development.
