In the bustling handscroll Washing Horses from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), you can find 95 horses and 41 grooms. Along the winding water and on the grassy banks, grooms wash, train, play with, and feed their horses.
The artist's brushwork is delicate and observant. Horses in motion appear playful and spirited, while those at rest look dignified and powerful. Each horse has its own posture and personality, bringing the entire scene to life. Collection: Liaoning Provincial Museum.
