Hubei province has unveiled an action plan to accelerate the integrated development of the sensor industry clusters in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC), aiming to establish OVC as a premier domestic sensor industry base.
The action plan focuses on cultivating a high-quality business ecosystem. By 2030, the goal is to attract and nurture around 100 high-quality smart sensor companies, achieving an industry scale of 30 billion yuan ($4.33 billion).
A state-of-the-art Optics Valley Smart Sensor Industrial Park will be constructed, featuring R&D incubation centers and pilot testing bases to support the entire production process, while the Optics Valley Smart Sensor Technology Innovation Institute will be established to foster collaborative research efforts in materials, processes, and fundamental components, with the goal of achieving breakthroughs in 50 core technologies and developing 50 innovative products by 2030.
"We not only aim to achieve technological breakthroughs but also to tackle the industrialization challenges," said Liu Huan, secretary-general of the Optics Valley Sensor Industry Innovation Alliance. "Our focus is on reducing R&D costs for small and medium enterprises, shortening product launch cycles, and accelerating the transition of core technologies from the lab to the production line."
As the main engine of Hubei's optoelectronic information industry, OVC has already attracted over 100 upstream and downstream enterprises in the sensor sector and boasts global competitiveness in infrared and temperature sensing.
