Hansen Nico Rene, a retired police officer from Luxembourg, has spent eight years in rural Hechi, Guangxi.
He first came as a tourist and is now the beloved assistant of local villagers. He joins them in building roads and farming, helps the community lift itself out of poverty, and takes an active part in grassroots governance.
Rene has witnessed the once poor land grow into a place full of hope. He says rural China is "the best place", and what he treasures most is the people here – their genuine smiles, warm greetings, and sincere care.
His eight years of dedication have fostered strong friendships with locals and enriched Hechi's grassroots governance, highlighting the vitality of Guangxi's rural development.
